Accessibility Implementation in HTML5 based Interactivities
One of the largest publishers for K–12, this client has a program running, which is a vertically and horizontally aligned system that supports student learning, motivation, and engagement through integration. The system is available for users on iOS, Windows, and Chromebook platforms and offers a rich, coherent curriculum in Mathematics K–11 and ELA K–12. The curriculum adheres to Common Core State Standards.
The program required the existing solution to be designed for use on iOS and Windows with updates : enable interactive access on Chromebook devices (touch, non-touch) and provide accessibility support for interactives.
Magic EdTech proposed a strategy and plan to execute an accessibility feasibility analysis, implement accessibility, and remediate the existing interactive code.
- Magic EdTech demonstrated knowledge on accessibility WCAG 2.0, and a strategy was carved out to make the interactives 100% compliant with 508 standards.
- Instructional Design was set up to review the interactive treatment using the interactive with assistive technology.
- An Editorial team was involved to write closed-caption and alternate text for existing and new media.
- A Quality Assurance team was established, and a lab was equipped with devices such as Chromebook, iOS, and Windows screen readers, JAWS, ChromeVox, Narrator, and VoiceOver to test the interactive content compliance.
